More about this game

The Rewrite: Not a Trope is an interactive story where you act as the Stabilizer. Your goal is to support Jack through five scenes of his recovery without turning him into a pity trope. You must balance two main meters: Jack's Agency, starting at 52, and the Trope Meter, starting at 18. Choosing options that respect his boundaries increases his agency, while controlling him increases the trope penalty. The run ends after the fifth scene, with one of three endings based on your final stats.

Tips
  • Avoid choices that take over the situation, like blocking the stairs; they will add a heavy trope penalty of up to 20 points.
  • Asking questions usually increases Jack's Agency by around 14 to 16 points, keeping the steering wheel firmly in his hands.
  • If the Trope Meter reaches 55, the number turns red as a warning. Tap the Breaker portrait then for a specific edit note.
Questions

How many scenes are there?

There are exactly five scenes to play through, starting with The Stair Incident, moving through The Assessment and The Bad Day, and ending with Return to the Stairs.

What happens if the Trope Meter gets too high?

If the Trope Meter reaches 55, the number turns red. If it is 78 or higher at the end of the fifth scene, you get the 'Revision required' ending.

How do I get the best ending?

To get the 'He kept the pen' ending, you need to finish the five scenes with Jack's Agency at 60 or higher and the Trope Meter strictly below 65.
