More about this game
Choose between a puzzle campaign and a skirmish. In the campaign, you face specific board states and must find the forcing moves to achieve goals like capturing the queen or delivering checkmate within a strict two-move limit. In skirmish mode, you command White against a black computer opponent with three difficulty levels: Apprentice, Tactician, and Master. A run ends when you complete the objective, run out of moves, or reach a checkmate or stalemate state.
Tips
- In the campaign, pay close attention to the move limit and the specific objective, such as capturing the black queen in exactly two moves.
- Use the hint button if you cannot find the forcing move in a puzzle; it highlights a suggested piece but costs you time.
- In skirmish mode, start on the Apprentice difficulty (depth 1) to get used to the computer's playstyle before challenging the Master level (depth 3).
Questions
Can I play as Black?
No, in both the puzzle campaign and the skirmish mode, you always command the white pieces against the black pieces. The computer always plays as Black.
How many difficulty levels are there?
The skirmish mode features three distinct difficulties: Apprentice for quick replies (depth 1), Tactician which looks ahead slightly (depth 2), and Master which uses a deeper search algorithm (depth 3).
What happens if I run out of moves in a puzzle?
If you exceed the move limit in the campaign, such as taking more than two moves on "The Hanging Queen", you fail the stage and must restart to find the correct forcing line.
